3 Lesser-Known Places to Visit in Dallas, Texas

So, you find yourself visiting Dallas, maybe not for the first time, and you are unsure of what to do while in the city? Well, fortunately there are a lot of events and activities you can partake in even if you have toured the city and seen all the well known sites.

Dallas is the third largest city in Texas, and among the top 10 largest in the United States. While it may not be the first pick for many tourists who choose to visit Texas, it still has a shockingly high amount of things to do. From the city center of Dallas that is home to many businesses like this financial institution , to the hidden gems of Dallas, this article will go over three of the lesser-known places to check out in the city.

Whether you currently live in the Dallas area, are a returning visitor, or a first time tourist looking to explore off the beaten path, this article is for you. We’re going to go over three of the coolest places in Dallas that are not well-known to the general public.

1. The Giant Eyeball

One of the more obscure sculptures that you can find across America is the Giant Eyeball in downtown Dallas. This sculpture is a staggering 30 feet in height, and is sure to catch your eye if you happen to be walking around in the area.

Constructed by Tony Tasset in 2007, this sculpture was simply a representation of his own eyeball. According to the artist, there is no hidden meaning behind the eye. It is just a big eye in the middle of Dallas, Texas.

If you do decide to visit the Giant Eyeball in Dallas, be sure to take a selfie in front of it! Your friends and family may not believe you when you tell them about this fascinatingly large sculpture of an eye. To learn more about the Giant Eyeball, check out this article from Art + Seek that goes over exactly why the sculpture ended up in downtown Dallas.

2. The Grave of Bonnie & Clyde

During your stay in Dallas, the grave of infamous American robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow is a must! Both Bonnie and Clyde were born and from Dallas, and chose the life of crime as a way to get out of poverty and make something of themselves.

In 1932, Bonnie and Clyde would travel throughout America robbing and killing for just under 2 years, before they were shot to death by police officers in Louisiana. Throughout their spree of crime, they killed nine police officers and two civilians.

The story of Bonnie and Clyde has been seen most notably in Hollywood films such as The Bonnie Parker Story, Bonnie and Clyde, The Highwaymen, among others. Their characters have also inspired countless other stories in television today, such as The Simpsons having Marge and Homer take on the Bonnie and Clyde roles.

3. Winspear Opera House

A stunning piece of architecture in Dallas is the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. Located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas, this building was designed to fit over 2,000 people in a horseshoe shaped room.

The opera house hosts a plethora of performances, from concerts to shows, there is a performance here for everyone. Their operas for the 2022 to 2023 season feature the world’s best opera singers as well as actors, and tickets are available now.

We recommend going to the famous Cosi fan tutte opera, which will be performed at the Winspear Opera House on March 24th, 26th, 29th, as well as April 1st of 2023. The opera was originally written in 1789 by none other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, so you know you are in for a show if you attend this performance.

Book your tickets for the Cosi fan tutte opera here.

There are a lot of other hidden gems throughout the city though, so don’t limit yourself to the locations covered in this article.

We wish you safe travels and a relaxing time if you choose to visit Dallas.
